PRE-COP27 DEEP DIVE WEBINAR

The ICCA Research Support Group (IRSG) through the Institute for Climate Change & Adaptation (ICCA) and under the auspices of the Department of Earth and Climate Sciences, University of Nairobi, invites students at the University of Nairobi to a webinar on engagement opportunities ahead of COP27 which will happen from 8 -20 November 2022 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. 

UON LAUNCHED AN ANIMAL HEALTH, MOLECULAR AND DIAGNOSTICS LABORATORY

UoN’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine launched a state of the art Animal Health, Molecular and Diagnostics laboratory. LAUNCH OF COVID-19 VACCINATION ACCELERATED PROGRAMME

UoN’s USAID Fahari ya Jamii project took part in the Nairobi accelerated COVID-19 vaccination campaign launch at Kibra Level 3 Hospital on Thursday, 2nd June 2022. The campaign targets to have at least 70% of the population in Nairobi vaccinated in the next six weeks. Currently, 48.9% (1,492,877) of the population in Nairobi is fully vaccinated against a targeted population of 3,052,494 persons.

LAUNCH OF UON FOUNDATION

the official launch of the UoN Foundation is scheduled on Thursday,  30th June 2022 at the Chancellor’s Court from 5:30 pm. As a prelude to the launch, the UoN Foundation board of trustees will be hosting a dinner to raise the foundation’s seed capital at the Great Court on June 23, 2022.

UON STUDENTS FETED FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE

over 907 young people received their Gold Award Certificates, 17 Award Alumni received Life Membership certificates during the President’s Award Kenya ceremony hosted by H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House Nairobi. 26 of these are UoN students.

President Uhuru Kenyatta commended young people who challenge themselves to do good within their communities through hard work and commitment.

UON PARTNERS WITH GLOBAL CENTER ON ADAPTATION

The visiting Chief Executive Officer for the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA), Prof. Patrick Verkooijen paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, University of Nairobi Professor Stephen Kiama. Various matters concerning strategic dialogue for the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP) and collaboration with the University of Nairobi in efforts towards galvanization of climate –resilient actions through triple win approach to address the impacts of climate change and the economy featured.

CHANGING THE FOOD SECURITY NARRATIVE IN KENYA

In August 2022, 50 UoN students drawn from the Faculty of Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine and Biosystems Egineering will go to Israel for the 11-month experiential learning run by the Arava International Centre for Agricultural Training (AICAT).

Since 2017, The University of Nairobi has been priviledged to send over 90 students to Israel to learn by doing innovative and latest agricultural practices.

OVER 200 UON STUDENTS EMPLOYED BY INDUSTRY

The University of Nairobi through the Office of Career Services and Dean of students organizes an annual job fair that attracts industry that offer jobs and internship opportunities to UoN students.

This year, the job fair happened on Thursday and Friday May 19-20,2022. The fair saw over 23 Kenyan-based Chinese companies that offered over 200 employment opportunities. Over 1500 students turned up for the fair with their CVs and ready to showcase their skills and learn the industry’s expectations.

Our dedicated staff Dr. C.m bidyo &Ms. ANN Munene were part of the team that were trained on the 2nd SILAB training aimed to improve on the transmission and quality of AMR data, was undertaken at the Dairy training institute, Naivasha from the 6th to the 8th of April 2022.

The training was through the support of FIND (Foundation for innovative New Diagnostics).
