The University of Nairobi’s Institute for Development Studies (IDS) through its lead researcher, Prof.Karuti Kanyinga, are among the five winners of $500K in philanthropic funding support by the Carnegie Foundation for each collaboration focused on emerging trans-regional trends in Africa, the Middle East, and beyond.
The 3rd Research Week kicked off on a high note on October 12, 2020 with six conferences starting their proceedings. A total of 13 conferences will run during the weeklong event. Albeit, virtual, this year’s Research Week numbers are quite impressive: 868 global participants from academia, government and industry, 347 presentations and 40+ keynote presentations is quite a mean fete.
Representatives of Flemming fund, including members of Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Irrigation, visited the refurbished microbiology laboratory of VPMP department, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Kabete, on 6th October 2020, to assess progress towards readiness for start of Antimicrobial resistance surveillance exercise. The visit was part of activities for the AMR poultry surveillance protocol dissemination workshop – Nairobi circuit which was held on 5-6th October 2020 at Limuru.
All graduates of the 63rd Congregation for the conferment of degrees and award of diplomas held on September 25, 2020 are requested to collect their certificates at the University of Nairobi Central Examinations Centre, Chiromo Campus in the following order:

The East African Community (EAC), the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) and German Development Bank- KfW is welcoming students with least at the level of Upper Second Class Honours or Distinction ( First class honours) to apply for scholarships in any of below thematic areas.
The University Nairobi hosted the 2nd International Inorganic Chemistry Conference in Kenya from 1st – 2nd October 2020, which was organised by KEN 01 project under the Department of Chemistry.
The Department of History and Archeology hosted a virtual panel presentation on Sept. 23, on Rethinking African Historical, Social & Cultural Scholarship during & After Covid-19: Challenges & Opportunities.”
A record 2,851 graduands were conferred degrees and awarded diplomas by the Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi at the 63rd Graduation Ceremony on September 25, 2020 held at the Great Court.
The graduates who followed the ceremony virtually consisted of 54 Doctor of Philosophy Degree Awards (PhDs), 370 Master Degree Awards, 15 Postgraduate Diploma Awards, 2045 Bachelor Degree Awards and 367 Diploma Awards.
