The Department of Veterinary Pathology, Microbiology and Parasitology, University of Nairobi, on 6th December 2018, hosted officials from Fleming fund: Emmanuel Okello Azore - Flemming fund Global consultant, and Isaac Mosiori - Fleming fund country logistics co-ordinator. Also In attendance was  Prof. Lilly Bebora(Microbiology), Dr. M.O. Odongo (Microbiology), Prof. C.G. Gitao (Virology) and Michael Kahara, representative of Central veterinary laboratories (in charge of the Microbiology laboratory.)

The visit was organised by Prof. Lilly Bebora.

The officials had come to assess if the Departmental Bacteriology laboratory warrants being included as one of the sentinel laboratories for national antimicrobial resistance surveillance exercise, for the animal sector.

The AMR surveillance is pegged on three indicator bacteria: E. coli, Salmonella and Staphylococcus.
