UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI RESEARCH WEEK 2020

This will be the first Research Week event to held online due to on going COVID 19 pandemic. The 3rd Annual event hosted by the University of Nairobi will be  in October from 12th to 16th,  2020.

The week features over ten different conferences covering a diverse range of academic disciplines, one of which is bound to meet your interest and area of expertise. The conferences provide a forum to enable you to present your work, engage with your colleagues, and learn about the latest developments in your field. 

VIDEO SHOOT FOR FIRST YEAR ORIENTATION

On 18th August 2020, the Dept. of Vet.Pathology, Microbiology and Parasitology had a video recording session for the learning facilities. The recorded video and images will be used in the orientation of the first years 2020/2021 intake that will take place on 31st August 2020.

The video recording took place in the large animal postmortem room, Embedding room histopathology teaching laboratory, students lectures theatres and Parasitology laboratory.

UON DON RECEIVES CARNEGIE AFRICAN DIASPORA FELLOWSHIP

Prof. Iribe Mwangi, the Chairman, Department of Kiswahili and Prof. Mungai Mutonya of Washington University in St. Louis, have been awarded the prestigious Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship.

UON AND BASF COLLABORATE TO SUPPORT COVID-19 EFFORTS

The University of Nairobi through the Department of Chemistry has collaborated with  BASF, one of the world’s leading chemical companies, to produce a handwash that will be distributed for free in urgent need areas as part of the company’s global “Helping Hands” initiative.

 

PROJECT BASED E-CONFERENCE

The project team (HORTIGREEN) composed of staff from Food Science, Nutrition and Technology as well as Wangari Maathai Institute has proposed an e-conference on 5-7 October, 2020.  This is the first E-Conference which is on “Sustainable Production and Consumption (SCP) Practices in the Horticulture Processing Sector”.  Other organizations involved are:- Fundacion SUSTALDE, Consumer Information Network (CIN) and Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).

UON READY TO SUPPORT JUDICIARY BUILD A DATA CENTER

The President of the Supreme Court and Chief Justice of Kenya, Hon David Maraga revealed that the Judiciary is in the process of building a data center, that will be a hub of all justice institutions like the Police, Prisons, DPP, DCI among others.

NEW TITLE ‘FINANCING AFRICA’ LAUNCHED VIRTUALLY

Prof. Attiya Waris’ book titled "Financing Africa" is a culmination of research undertaken over a ten year period. The book serves as a commentary on taxation and how taxpayers' money is used as well as a guide to understanding public finances in Africa. It creates an opportunity to widen the knowledge base in developing countries; specifically, on how Africa's fiscal systems were intended to and can subsequently be used to support development and alleviate poverty.
