ANIMAL HEALTH LABORATORY STAFF TRAINING ON AST

The Dept. of Vet. Pathology held a two-week training (17th – 28th May 2021) to Animal Health Laboratory Staff on Anti-Microbial Sensitivity (AST).

The training was officially opened by Prof. Mande, the Dean Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

The training, facilitated by ILRI, is on bacterial isolation and identification, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. It will be done in two lots of 18 participants each (17th – 21st May 2021 and 24th – 28th May 2021). Participants comprise technologists and/or veterinarians in charge of bacteriology laboratories from 6 counties (Mariakani, Eldoret, Kericho, Nakuru, Karatina, Garissa); Central Veterinary Laboratories (CVL) – Kabete; and University of Nairobi – department of Veterinary Pathology, Microbiology and Parasitology (VPMP). They are part of the Flemming Fund national antimicrobial resistance surveillance exercise in Kenya. Organisers of the training are: Prof. Lilly Bebora (UoN – dept. VPMP), Dr. Mahacla Odongo (UoN – dept. VPMP), Anne Munene (UoN – dept. VPMP) and Michael Kahara (CVL – Kabete).
