The Nation Media Group has offered media support worth Ksh. 2M to the UoN Foundation. This was revealed when the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi Prof. Stephen Kiama Gitahi paid a courtesy call to the CEO of NMG - Mr. Stephen Gatagama and apprised him on the ongoing initiative of raising seed capital for the University of Nairobi Foundation.
While outlining the value that the foundation will bring to the University and the community at large, Prof.Kiama noted that endowment fund will be used to provide scholarships to bright students from humble backgrounds and in promotion of impactful research at the university.
On his part, Mr. Gatagama noted that UoN is a very strong brand and NMG is proud to be associated with it. He praised UoN for dealing firmly with the issue of fake certificates.
The Nation Media Group accepted to support the University of Nairobi Foundation campaign by giving media value equivalent of Kenya shillings 2 million. The support will go a long way in creating awareness and influencing stakeholders especially the Alumni to donate to the endowment fund.
The VC and the NMG CEO agreed to open a new area of partnership in supporting the growth of Small and Micro Enterprises in Kenya. The SMEs, Gatagama said, should tap on the abundant talents at the University of Nairobi to prosper. Through internships the young graduates from the University of Nairobi will be able to gain practical work experience and also learn to run their own enterprises from SME's. Mr. Gatagama is an Alumus of the University of Nairobi school of business and management science.
