Students Academic from Other Universities,Middle Level Colleges and Technical Institutions in the Department allows students to have a hands on practical skills in the areas of Veterinary Pathology, Microbiology and Parasitology which are very necessary as they pursue their courses not only in field of Veterinary Medicine
Applied Biology fourth year students from Thika Technical Training Institute Tuesday 5th November 2019, Visited the dept of Vet.Pathology, Microbiology and Parasitology for an academic trip whereby they were taken through practical demonstrations in Veterinary Histopathology.
The students were welcomed in the department by the Chairman of the department ,Prof. Githigia who thanked the students for choosing our department for their academic tour.The chairman told the students to utilize this great opportunity and learn all about Veterinary Histopathology.
The students started by visiting large animal PM room where they were explained on how to receive animals in PM, safety and PPE in PM room and finally how to collect and preserve histopathological specimens.
Next section was Embedding room where the students were taken through on slicing of tissue, tissue fixation, automatic tissue processing and tissue blocking.
The next practical session was on tissue sectioning where the students were demonstrated on Microtomy and tissue mounting on a slide.
Lastly the students were taken through on Histopathological staining where they were demonstrated on Hematoxylin and Eosin staining procedure.
The students also were taken to the department incinerator where by they were taken through the incineration process of PM Carcass and other waste generated from other departments.
