On Tuesday 14th March 2023, Students from Kenya School of TVET, (formerly KTTC) visited the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Faculty of Agriculture for a practical educational trip.
The students were welcomed by the Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Mande, together with training coordinator, Dr. Abuom where the students were given a motivational speech by encouraging them to pursue their dreams since its achievable.
The students visited the Dept. of Vet.Pathology, (Histopathology section), Dept. of Clinical Studies (Small Animal Clinic - Clinic/X-Ray,Labs) and Large Animal Clinic - Clinic, AI, Ultrasound), Dept. of Plant Science (Plant breeding – Biotechnology and Herbarium).
In the Dept Vet.Pathology, The students started by visiting large animal PM room where they were explained on how to receive animals in PM, safety and PPE in PM room and finally how to collect and preserve histopathological specimens.
Next section was Embedding room where the students were taken through on slicing of tissue, tissue fixation, automatic tissue processing and tissue blocking.
The next practical session was on tissue sectioning where the students were demonstrated on Microtomy and tissue mounting on a slide.
Lastly the students were taken through on Histopathological staining where they were demonstrated on Hematoxylin and Eosin staining procedure.
In the Dept. of Plant Science the students were exposed to practical sessions through demonstrations on Plant breeding techniques,Biotechnology and Herbarium.
In the Dept. of Clinical Studies, the students visited the Small Animal Clinic - Clinic/X-Ray,Labs) and Large Animal Clinic - Clinic, AI, Ultrasound and also visited diagnostic laboratories such as Clinical Chemistry and Haematology Lab.
