HANDS ON POULTRY TRAINING
The Dept. of Vet. Pathology, Microbiology and Parasitology will on Tuesday 25th February 2020 conduct a three days hands on Poultry practical training to some scientists from International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)
The training will forcus on;
- Chcken Handling (safe handling, restraint and hazards)
- Acquitance with anatomy of chickens of various types, ages and sexes
- Adequate sample collection on live and dead chickens, including handling, transportation and streaking onto MacConkey agar.
- Collection of blood for serum and for plasma harvesting
- Carrying out rapid whole blood plate test for fowl typhoid
- innoculation of the birds through various routes
They will also cover;
- Aspects of asceptic technique
- Biosafety and biosecurity issues with respect to poultry
- Disposal of wastes (carcasses, Lab wastes)
- Animal/chicken welfare issues (including humane killing of the birds)
- Various pathological lesions that can be seen on various organs and specifically for salmonellosis
