“MASTER OF SCIENCE IN AQUATIC ANIMAL HEALTH AND ECOSYSTEM MANAGEMENT”

The offer background

The Enhanced Capacity for Aquatic Resources in East and South Africa (ECARESA) grant funded by NORAD and hosted at the above department wishes to recruit applicants to be trained for the above named Masters degree programme in aquaculture. Following selection at University of Nairobi, the applicants will apply for admission at the hosting institution in Lilongwe, Malawi (Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources - LUANAR ) where they will undertake coursework studies in the first year of the programme. In the second year of study and following successful completion of coursework, they will return to Kenya to carry out their research work and thesis writing under supervision at the departmental.  Thereafter they will defend their thesis at LUANAR for the award of the degree. All costs for the study will be borne by the grant and the successful candidates will be offered a stipend for living expenses during the two year period.

The degree objectives

The main objective of the degree programme is to strengthen technical and managerial capacity in

health of aquatic resources. The Master of Science in Aquatic Animal Health and Ecosystem

Management will give the candidate a good basis for understanding and practicing aquatic health management and disease prevention and   control.

Entry qualification at University of Nairobi selection

Applicant are required to have the following minimum qualifications from recognized institutions:

a. Bachelor of Science Degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries Science (at upper second qualification level);

b. Bachelors degree in Veterinary Medicine

Application process

The advertisement will be on the university and department websites. Interested candidates will submit a letter indicating their intention to study and a brief testimonial on what motivates them to study aquaculture under such a programme. They will indicate their qualifications and the institution where they studied; and names, email addresses and telephone numbers of three referees and attach the certificates of their qualifications as ell as the national ID.  The documents will addressed to the undersigned and be uploaded onto the website by 5.00pm on 10th May 2022.
