Introduction

 

            Part of the Vet Pathology, Microbiology and parasitology Department.

The Department of Veterinary Pathology & Microbiology is one of the 5 departments of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Nairobi. It is located on Upper Kabete Campus, Loresho Ridge Road off Kapenguria Road approximately 2 km from the main Nairobi-Kikuyu-Limuru Highway. It is approximately 12 -15 kilometers North West of Nairobi City center. The department comprises of 3 major sections, Pathology, Microbiology and Parasitology. The staff is comprised of 22 academics with expertise in Parasitology, Bacteriology, Virology, Mycology, Immunology and Pathology and 23 Non- Academics. The department is involved in the teaching of both undergraduate and postgraduate (MSc. and PhD) students in the following disciplines: - Pathology, Clinical Pathology, Microbiology, Immunology, Parasitology and Diagnostic Pathology. Demand-driven diagnostic and consultancy services in diseases of both domestic and wild animals including poultry and fish and humans are also offered. Staff in the department also carrying out, problem-oriented research, which is geared towards improving animal health and production, human health and poverty alleviation; respective findings being disseminated to the general public via publications, workshops, seminars, conferences, farm visits and field days.
